Christmas Gift Guide with a Conscience: From Etsy with Love.

It's going to be a different kind of Christmas this year. A 2020 Christmas. Even if we can see loved ones—which I have my fingers and toes crossed for—it won't be the large gatherings that maybe we're used to. The extra chairs set at the dining table, everyone squeezed in over the turkey. The crowds of children clambering over each other by the tree to find which present is theirs. The Christmas carols around the tree... I think I may be descending into a Dickensian novel right about now.

No. We'll have small, distanced breakfasts over Zoom. Present swapping over the garden gate. Mask wearing Santa as he drops down the chimneys and breaks lockdown rules. Who knows what will happen on December 25th?

What I do know is that I think a lot of people will feel the pinch this Christmas. Lost jobs, furloughs, lack of footfall customers, loss of staff, ill health, and everything else that comes with a pandemic of the magnitude not seen before in my lifetime.

But there is a glimmer of hope in all the doom and gloom. And that glimmer comes from all the independent businesses that are flourishing.

And if there was ever a good time to support them, it's now.

So, in conjunction with Etsy—one of my most favourite places to shop—I've put together a Christmas gift shopping list full of independent retailers, makers, and crafters. Most of them are local to me too which gives me a warm feeling inside!

*I may earn a small fee if you click on the links and then go on to buy, but you won't pay a penny extra.*

Norfolk Retro

Norfolk Retro is a home & lifestyle shop offering some gorgeous pieces of second-hand furniture and homewares. From plant pots to coffee tables and everything in between. Keep an eagle eye out as their products don't stay around for long. I've been hankering after an Ercol armchair and Norfolk Retro has some beauties.

Love Lucy Crafts Co

Lucy's shop is fairly new on the market, and she has some absolutely gorgeous homemade clay goodies. There are wall hangings, coasters, and some really cute Christmas decorations for the tree. Plus, all of Lucy's packaging is recycled, recyclable, or reused. So it's win-win.

PopShop and Play

I love PopShop!! It's the perfect place to get your slime needs fulfilled without having to make it in your own home! They gave us a press sample last year which you can read all about here. If you're looking to buy for the children in your lives then this is the place to do it.

Bear and Primrose

Kirstie makes some of the most beautiful handmade wreaths. Her flowers are made from tissue paper so they last forever too. She has some gorgeous Christmas wreaths in at the moment, to hang from your door or mantel.

Pretty Cactus Plants

During lockdown part one and part two house plants have been my saviour. And I know I'm not alone. Pretty Cactus Plants offer a huge array of houseplants and plant pots. From ferns to fig trees. They're the perfect gifts for all ages.

These really do offer what they say on the tin. Klever Case have the best storage solutions and kindle cases, amongst other brilliant bits and bobs. Their beautiful hand-made cases make filing fun. I've got a shelf full of them and my paper-work has never looked so good. Loads of different designs to choose from.

Angie B Art and Design

Angie B designs and makes her own cards, prints, and paintings. At the moment she has the most gorgeous Christmas cards and tote bags. As well as some beautiful original watercolours.

Ros Arrowsmith

As you can see from the picture, Ros is a potter who makes the perfect sized teacups! Who wants a piddly cup and saucer when you can have a mug as big as your head, especially when they can be personalised? Ros also makes an array of other beautiful ceramics such as plates, soup bowls, and celebratory ball mugs.

If there is nothing there that takes your fancy then Etsy has put together their own gift-lists, including this Editor's Picks list with a daily update from the wonderful people of Etsy themselves.

Happy shopping
